Twice yearly dental cleanings are essential when it comes to maintaining oral health. A professionally performed cleaning by one of our Waterbury CT hygienists can help remove mineralized or stuck plaque that can turn to cavities, even if you floss and brush daily.
How it's done
Your cleaning should last only 30 minutes to an hour. Usually, one of our trained hygienists will perform the actual cleaning and one of our skilled Waterbury dentists will come in for an exam at the end. Most people find these cleanings do be pain-free and not causing any discomfort.
The first step in the cleaning is the scaling of the teeth, where the hygienist will remove plaque and/or tartar from the teeth using electric or hand tools. The pockets of the gums will also be targeted, in order to remove any build up there too.
Secondly, and finally, the teeth will be polished and buffed to remove any final plaque and to give them a nice shine.
