Dental Exams and X-Rays
A routine dental exam typically goes hand in hand with your twice yearly dental cleaning. Routine exams can help you avoid the financial and health issues associated with waiting and needing larger scale treatment later on. At the twice-yearly frequency, most dental problems can be caught and begin to be treated while still in an early stage.
How it's done
First, one of our expert Waterbury CT dentists will examine your mouth visually, using dental tools, mouth mirrors, and high-intensity lighting. The teeth will be examined for cracks, decay and we will review other important items, such as:
- Medical history
- Oral cancer screening
- Gum disease evaluation
- Examination of existing restorations
Additionally, we will take diagnostic x-rays to reveal any hidden problems, especially in places that escape the naked eye, like below the gums. Bitewing x-rays typically are taken once a year, and a whole-head-surrounding panographic x-ray is typically done once every 3 to 5 years.
